ABOUT ME

I'm a Kansas State graduate who majored in mass communications and minored in economics and political science. I'm here to broaden and grow my skills in all areas of journalism and leadership.

My interest in journalism started in middle school. In seventh grade, I produced gaming videos in hopes I would one day be a successful YouTuber as many optimistic teens do. In eighth grade, I joined my school’s yearbook program, the Trojan Tradition. I learned of my school’s broadcast program my junior year of high school and I fell in love with the curriculum, and even brought home the school's first award in a broadcasting category at JEA in fall 2019. It was here I decided what I wanted to devote my post-secondary education to: journalism at K-State.

During my sophomore year of college I became more involved with the school’s newspaper publication, the Collegian. I joined as a photographer but eventually moved to the news desk. I held the Student Governing Association beat for a while, covering Student Union budget cuts and the incoming governing class, and eventually branched out to stories affecting current and incoming student life. However, less than six months into my journalism journey, the Collegian catapulted me from news writer and photographer to editor-in-chief.

My time as editor-in-chief was invaluable to my growth as a journalist. From August 2022 to May 2024, I led the editorial board in building the paper each week, led the entire staff in a coordinated effort with our school’s radio station Wildcat 91.9-FM in covering Election Night 2022 and continued to write stories across a wide range of subjects and styles.

Besides EIC experience, my portfolio includes news stories such as SGA and student life, news and sports video such as a reproductive rights rally after Roe v. Wade was overturned and a women’s senior night basketball game against West Virginia, breaking news such as election results, and an interactive economic story digging deeper into the economy and inflation. I pride myself in my jack-of-all-trades approach to learning, understanding and presenting journalism.

I got the opportunity to intern in Washington, D.C. in the summer of 2023 through the Fund for American Studies. Taken under the wing of Dan McCue and Christina Paulos, I learned more about the professional world of writing and how to cover stories in the news hub of the country.

My Collegian adviser, David Levy, and my staff pushed me to become the best leader I can be. Mr. Levy taught me how to do it while my staff motivated me to apply it. Both are the main reasons I applied and accepted the EIC position again my senior year. I wanted to continue growing as a journalist and leader, and the Collegian provided the perfect environment to do both.

Cary Conover, my high school journalism teacher and K-State alumnus, left me with a quote from Chuck Close at graduation. “Inspiration is for amateurs. The rest of us show up and get to work.” It reminds me that I’m not here to be the loudest voice in the room but to lead by example. My biggest goal in life is to leave a legacy in the field through hard work and dedication and let my merits speak for themselves.
